I would like to reduce the Beta dependency for my investment. As a way of achieving it, I am think about investing in Forex, Future. But yet I have not found accessible API, whereas in Stock there are some popular options like Alpaca, TDAmeritrade, Ally etc. Can you guys share your experience in non-equity market?
I’ve been looking for a broker that has an API for index futures and ideally also futures options. I’m looking to use the API to build a customized view of my risk based on balances, positions, and market conditions. Searching the algotrading sub I found many API-related posts, but then when I actually read them and their comments, I found they’re often lacking in real substance. It turns out many brokers or data services that have APIs don’t actually support index futures and options via the API, and instead they focus on equities, forex, or cypto. So here’s the list of what I’ve found so far. This isn’t a review of these brokers or APIs and note that I have a specific application in mind (index futures and futures options). Perhaps you’re looking for an API for equities, or you just want data and not a broker, in which case there may be a few options. Also, I’m based in the US so I didn’t really look for brokers or platforms outside the US. If you have experience with these APIs, please chime in with your thoughts. Also, I may have missed some brokers or platforms. If I did or if you see anything that needs correction please let me know.
Broker with a variety of platforms including CQG, Rithmic, TT, some with APIs
Wow, this list grew longer than I originally thought it would be. If you spot a mistake, please let me know and I’ll correct it. Edit: - added Lightspeed API - updated Dashprime to indicate some of the APIs available - added Medved Trader to table - added marketstack to table
Need a futures broker for automatic trading with bash
Hello. I know more about strategy than programming. I've written a few indicators on TradingView that I'd like to use to trade futures. Currently, my forex algo Trading is executed on a Linux VPS using bash scripts (curl to the OandA API) whenever my TradingView script generates a trade alert. I'm looking for a futures broker to trade ES and MES, using the custom indicator I've built and if possible, bash scripts for the order execution. I'm not aware of which broker(s) meet this requirement. I'm in the US. I'm skilled with bash/Linux commands line, but not good at all with python. At best, I can hack apart and modify templates and python code. Prefer to write bash. Thanks! EDIT: need the ability to both paper trade and live trade.
ETORO vs INTERACTIVE BROKERS vs OANDA vs CORE SPREADS
Hi guys, just want to compare brokers. I am looking for a broker that allows users here in the philippines I want to open an account to trade in the global market. I've been using ETORO for some months already and there's a lot of negative reviews with regards to their withdrawal process/fee. Then the trader that I am following uses Core Spreads which is why I want to consider it. I also saw Interactive Brokers allows API calls which is also good since I also want to automate my trades. I see OANDA from some posts here and they say it's also good. What you think guys? Pros and Cons? EDIT: I am now reviewing this brokers: pepperstone, IG and Forex.com. Those brokers had the best reviews made by pinoy bloggers
I created a technical indicator based on neural networks
Hello, I'm a PhD student specialized in machine learning and I've been fascinated about the Forex markets since 2009. I've recently finished a technical indicator that I've been designing for the past... many years. I was wondering if you guys were interested at checking it out. I'm posting a sample of the indicator for the AUD/CHF market (https://imgur.com/2sKVSu6), using a 4-hour timeframe. Please tell me if you are interested on a particular market/timeframe and I'll post a pic of it. Basically, if the price (white line) is in a orange-red area, it means it could stagnate. If it's in a blue area, it is moving fast. But the interesting part is that you can see that the price will soon reach an orange-red area (so you should stop trading, or not start a trade) and if it's moving towards a blue area, it will most likely become wild. I've traded for 1 week until now using it and I've made 0.6% of profit (I like to trade very small lot sizes in Oanda). I'll keep trading and hopefully I can move to use this indicator alone (plus common sense) in the future. I use it for Forex markets, but if you're interested in other markets tell me (it should work for other markets too). Just make sure it's listed in Oanda's assets (I use their API to get the data). EDIT: You can try it for yourself using this link: http://predictus.ngrok.io/index.html it's hosted on my machine, the front-end is badly programmed and there's literally no error catching. In other words, it will most likely explode sooner or later. Also, I'm using ngrok and I think it limits the number of connections, so I wish you luck. EDIT2: The price line is now a candlestick chart. I think it's way clearer this way. Also, the server seems to be more stable now.
Is there a free datafeed which I can feed backtrader with?
I wanted to say "Free Live Datafeed" but seems I cannot edit the title. I am new to forex trading/algotrading, but am reading up on it recently. I wrote some simple EAs with metatrader but would like to switch to a general purpose programming language like python, which is when I came across backtrader. With metatrader, I have the option of opening a demo account with a broker and I can run my EA against the data from the broker. I read in the documentation (please correct me if I'm wrong) that backtrader supports live feeds from three brokers, namely IB, Oanda and Live Trading. Before I open an account with them, I would like to know if their demo accounts allow me the access to the data that I need to feed backtrader with. So my question do any of their demo accounts allow me to access the live data to feed backtrader? Another question which is not directly related, in the Oanda page https://developer.oanda.com/rest-live/introduction/ it says that the API version 1.0 will be deprecated. And backtrader seems to be using the version 1.0 https://cookbook.backtrader.com/documentation/live/oanda/oanda/. Does anyone know if version 2.0 support will be added to backtrader?
My experiences of implementing an automated trading bot from scratch
A few weeks ago a friend of mine introduced me to Forex and I immediately wanted to implement a bot for it. I started to write a backtest + real time trading bot in Rust from scratch. I went with Oanda because it supports intra day forex data for the last 18 years (Although it is pretty slow). Ducascopy also offers intra day data which I use to initialize my database and Oanda only keeps it up to date. Also Oanda limits history to 5k data points per request. We currently concentrate on trading strategies for M30 only. We already have a few winning strategies, but the return is very very small. Manual trading at the moment is much more profitable. Running a strategy with a few indicators is relatively fast. M30 for the last 16 years usually only takes a few ms (single threaded). The API currently looks like this:
Hey guys, I am a programmer and know Python, Java and some other languages... I would like to start learn about algo trading and wondering what's the best API out there that will allow me to create trading strategies and, most importantly, connect to Forex data sources? I am looking right now at Oanda and it's Python wrapper API. What do you guys use? What do you guys use in Production, meaning, live markets? Thanks in advance!
Couple questions around brokers and currency conversion
I've just been getting into trading forex. I've mostly been focusing on learning and back testing some different strategies. I haven't jumped the gun yet on trading live and had a couple questions on currency conversion and how brokers handle it. I plan on trading with Oanda. 1) If my account is using a base balance of CAD and I want to trade EUUSD, when I close a position will my broker automatically add/subtract my profit/loss to my account using my accounts base currency at the current exchange rate? If I'm using leverage, will the loans automatically close after a position has been closed? 2) I'm trying to write some automated back tests and realize that in order to correctly calculate my risk per trade at a given point in time, I need historical exchange rates. What APIs are typically used for this? One I've come across is fixer.io. I've noticed that Oanda has one, but it looks rather pricey. Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone I am not sure if this is the right place to ask questions if not please refer me to the right place and I will move my question there . I am trying to make GUI application and implement Oanda API in it so I can stream forex pairs prices in my own GUI using matplotlib. i have everything set but the problem is i don't know how to retrieve the data using their API and most of the documentations on the net is all about algo trading , but what i am interested about at this point is to get instruments prices and stream them in my own GUI can anyone help me please on this? i m doing it to learn python
I am trying to find a solid broker with a good R forex trading API. I came across the OANDA API but I had issues with it due to the complete lack of working R support. The github versions didnt work for me.... I had to modify/update several methods to get the history to work correctly and I am unable to get a Trade POST request working at all. Anyone have recommendations for a Forex broker with a working R API? I tried: https://github.com/IFFranciscoME/ROandaAPI
Do you think someone will buy my C++ source code of a backtest/trade system?
Hi all, This is not an AD, but I'm asking your opinion whether someone may be interested in my system, or whehter it's worth that I do some work to find a buyer. This is a backtesting and trade system, not strategy. Main functions and features: * Written in C++, using Qt framework. Can run on Windows, Linux, and Mac. * Console program, very fast. * Currently only support Forex, but it's easy to extend to support other markets, such as Stock. * Backtesting. Candle bar based backtesting. It's not difficult to support tick based backtesting. * Optimization. Currently only brute force is supported, but it's quite easy to plug in other methods. * Walkforward testing. * Multiple threading. OpenMp is used for multithreading, each backtesting task is allocated on a CPU core. * One robot can use multiple instruments and multiple time frames. * Live trading system. Currently Oanda REST API is implemented. One robot can place buy/sell order on different account, to avoid no-hedging limitation. I have used it on my live account, and it works well. * Any more trade platforms should be able to be integrated to the system, such as FIX, but I didnt do any investigation yet. * Some indicators are included. MA, RSI, MACD, PSAR, etc, using ta_lib. New indicators can be developed easily. * Dukascopy data download. Incremental download tick data from Dukascopy, very fast. * Oanda data download. Using Oanda REST API, incremental, very fast. * Simple charting. So the report contains a balance chart, very intuitive. * Some other features, such as convert Dukascopy tick data to internal candle binary data, convert candle data to MT4 CSV, etc. * Unit testing. Some key components are unit tested. * High quality code. I'm an experienced developer. You can check my code quality and style from my open source C++ library, cpgf, on github, though it's not finance related. * Very good performance. The bar based backtesting system is highly optimized. * Since the architecture is good, the system can be used as either a program or a library. * About 50K lines of C++ code. * I spent about one year partial time on it. My question is, do you think anyone will be interested to buy my source code? And how much do you think I should charge for? Or beside selling the source code, what do you think I can do to earn some money via the system? My original purpose developing such a system is to use by myself, but I'm not sure when I can find a good strategy to earn some money for me. Thanks
I'm working with Forex on Oanda's API, and this is a strategy I am considering to avoid being stopped out exclusively by the widening spread, especially when placing trades with tight stop losses. Are there any disadvantages in a market like spot retail forex to have your algo manage your trades stop loss rather than placing a stop loss order? Specifically, if I backtest all my results using only one price quote for longs and shorts, for example - i could build into my trade manager that all my entries and exits including stops will only be based on the ask price or bid price depending on what direction the trade is, so that the spread is ignored. Or even added to stop loss. Or have it based on the mid price. I realize this could possibly result in larger losses if the wide spread tightens and settles well below my intended stoploss, or that the execution could be delayed during significant movements. For the latter, I intend to place an actual fallback stoploss order at maybe twice the intended SL. Are these sound ideas, or is it ultimately flawed to do something like this or ignore the spread?
Forex Live Demo Trading API for free? Suggestions?
Hello there! As I do poor in manual trading and do not have the time to constantly look at charts, I want to try it with algorithms. Made a small script with python that works pretty well, but I am sure my backtesting method isn't very accurate so I would like to test it in real life. Is there any broker, that gives me a more or less free demo trading account with API access? I want to get live ask/bid tik data and the programm will send long/short/close with stop loss/take profit orders. Can you recommend me a broker / website please? And how does API trading work? Do I send the orders via URL or external programms? If there is no such a thing (without having to invest 100000€ into the broker...), is there a possibility to get live forex quotes? I even thought about constantly taking screenshots of the oanda demo trading window and extracting the exchange rates... :) But I hope it doesn't need to be that complicated. Thank you!
The Future of Currency Trading: Japanese Software Company Develops Forex App for the Pepper Humanoid Robot
This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 31%.
Japanese software developer Forex Robotics Corporation has announced it's developing a trading application for Pepper, a 4ft-tall humanoid robot engineered by French robotics firm Aldebaran and SoftBank Group, a Tokyo-based IT conglomerate. According to today's announcement, the Forex Robotics Corporation trading app will be making use of Pepper's AI capabilities to make trades on the OANDA FxTrade foreign currency trading platform. The company states that Pepper will be able to execute both demo and real trades thorough the Web API provided by OANDA Japan. While Forex Robotics is making use of the OANDA foreign exchange trading infrastructure, the company clarified that OANDA is not actively participating in the development of the Pepper trading app. More recently, the Pepper robots were put to use in Belgian hospitals, where they assist receptionists and guide patients & visitors. The base Pepper model retails for $1850 in the US. Image credits: 1 2.
